Estero,
the Spanish word for estuary, with a
population of approximately 10,000,
located between Fort Myers and Bonita
Springs, is one of the fastest growing
communities in Lee County.
In 1997, Florida Gulf Coast University
opened and major development has taken
place, including Miromar Outlets with
over 90 shops, TECO Arena, home of the
Everblades hockey team, Sea Dragons
basketball team,
and the Firecats arena football. These
are just a few of the reasons for
Estero's growth. Estero High School is
one of the newest and most advanced
high schools in Lee County and offers
a wide range of championship sport
teams.
If you
like the outdoors you will enjoy
Estero, which is rich in natural
beauty and wildlife. The Gulf of
Mexico and
Estero Bay offer the allure of
saltwater and white sand beaches.
Estero Bay offers some of the best
fishing in Florida with both fresh and
salt-water fishing. Enjoy boating in
the bay, gulf, or river while you
watch the dolphin and manatee. The
Estero River is perfect for canoeing
and kayaking. Estero offers great
golfing from public to private courses
and Southwest Florida has over 150
golf courses.
The
Koreshan State Historic Site is
located in Estero. It was once the
headquarters for the Koreshan
religious sect. The remains of this
pioneer settlement are preserved on
the banks of the Estero River.
