Estero, the Spanish word for estuary, with a population of approximately 10,000, located between Fort Myers and Bonita Springs, is one of the fastest growing communities in Lee County.

In 1997, Florida Gulf Coast University opened and major development has taken place, including Miromar Outlets with over 90 shops, TECO Arena, home of the Everblades hockey team, Sea Dragons basketball team, and the Firecats arena football. These are just a few of the reasons for Estero's growth. Estero High School is one of the newest and most advanced high schools in Lee County and offers a wide range of championship sport teams.

If you like the outdoors you will enjoy Estero, which is rich in natural beauty and wildlife. The Gulf of Mexico and Estero Bay offer the allure of saltwater and white sand beaches. Estero Bay offers some of the best fishing in Florida with both fresh and salt-water fishing. Enjoy boating in the bay, gulf, or river while you watch the dolphin and manatee. The Estero River is perfect for canoeing and kayaking. Estero offers great golfing from public to private courses and Southwest Florida has over 150 golf courses.

The Koreshan State Historic Site is located in Estero. It was once the headquarters for the Koreshan religious sect. The remains of this pioneer settlement are preserved on the banks of the Estero River.
